"You're choosing to leave now," Faye clarified. She wasn't just going to let Edward brush this off as chance, wasn't going to accept full responsibility for supposedly abandoning Edward. Because she wasn't. Not everyone in the house felt like Faye's family yet either, but that was how Bebop had started as well. That was how practically any friendships she had following her memory loss had started, and even as a child, she thought friendships were beholden to the same laws of chance and circumstance. "Families aren't all the same shape, Edward. What we had on Bebop was a place where we belonged. But we were all strangers there once. It was only time that made us... into family."

She took a deep, steadying breath. "You're old enough that you should start realizing that now, Edward. I am inviting you to be part of my family. If you leave, that's not... that's not me leaving you behind. That's you choosing to leave. There's a difference, Edward. I haven't forgotten about you. I just found someone else along the way, too. And I don't want to be lonely anymore. I'm so... tired of being lonely."
